Not a list of Vienna’s markets, don’t worry; just impressions of the ones we have dropped in on. With markets opening this weekend in extraordinary locations like castle ruins and palaces, these are the only Vienna snaps I’ll likely have to share.
O Come All Ye Faithful. The small, and very local* market in Türkenschanzpark. A few stalls with hipster and organic offerings, and a few more with Glühwein and small snacks. CTF likes to take his afternoon wander here, of course to help keep the park clean. His motto? “If it’s on the ground or heading that way, it’s meant for me and that’s okay!”
*How local is our market? So local that only the faithful know the dates. 🤣
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. We and just a few others attended the tree lighting at Rathaus to officially begin the Christmas market season! This year’s tree is from Kärnten, one of the Austrian federal states bordering Slovenia and Italy, and we thought it quite pretty.
Perhaps the most commercial of all of the Vienna’s markets in terms of the offers, though, and relatively unchanged from previous years. The “Pizza Hütte” is new; but what flavor of Glühwein pairs well with pizza?
Deck the Halls. Or, at least the chestnut stall.
Happy Xmas (War is Over) Bankomats! Designer Gins! Shots for Oma and Opa!
Weihnachten in Wien.
