A checklist for the time-honored tradition of fall festivaling.*

*Not a word but I am using it regardless.

Our first fall festival of the season out in the Blue Ridge Mountains checked all but one box: the weather was a pleasant and summery 80℉. Definitely not chunky sweater weather.

Scenic Drive. ✔️

Bonus points for Barns.

Mountains. ✔️

Parking in a Pasture. ✔️

Fall Fruits to “Pick.” ✔️

Extra Credit for the best apple butter I have ever tasted.

Music. ✔️

And for me, of course, Bovine Beauties. ✔️

We’re as much fans as the next person when it comes “Festival Food.” You know, Pulled This, Barbecued That. But our tolerance for looooong queues is short, so after enjoying the festival we drove a short bit down the road to a “Mercantile,” where we picnicked along the roadside with a Meatloaf Sandwich (for Tony) and a Bologna-on-White for me. #ItsFallYall
